Waterproofing Heritage and Listed Buildings (Grade 1 & 2)
Waterproofing Heritgage and listed Buildings (Grade 1&2)
When designing a waterproofing/damp proofing solution in a historic building or structure of architectural interest, additional attention needs administering during the design stage to maintain the aesthetic and structural integrity of the structure/building. The waterproofing design should offer sympathetic application.
Delta Membrane Systems Limited has a committed team of Waterproofing Design Specialists. Our credible Technical Team can offer experience and knowledge when designing a waterproofing solution for a Grade 1, Grade 2, Heritage building or an unusual structure. As a Waterproofing Specialist, we work with architects, surveyors, governing bodies, contractors and engineers to provide a design service which complies with BS8102:2009 and offers sympathetic detail to design.
Our Technical Team are CSSW qualified (Certified Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing) and are members of the Structural Waterproofing Design Register offering comfort that your Waterproofing Design Specialist is experienced in heritage buildings.
The Delta Membrane System has been specified in many Grade 1 and 2 listed buildings throughout the United Kingdom due to its sympathetic value. The Delta Membrane System offers an ‘air gap’ technology which is favored by English Heritage, The Society for Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) and local authority conservation officers.
The Delta Membrane System itself doesn’t need any aggressive preparation therefore it will not create damage to historical or heritage structures. The Delta Membrane System is a reversible system, which can easily be removed at any time, retaining the structure underneath intact.
A Delta Membrane Systems is not a replacement for lime render. The Delta Membrane System is a compromise, for when lime renders are inadequate in given situations, for example on below ground structures, on structures that have heavy salt contamination and on structures that cannot be effectively repaired and waterproofed sympathetically and adequately from the outside (for example where there are architectural features that cannot be waterproofed).
The Delta Membrane System is favored for two main reasons:
- It is ‘air gap’ technology, The Delta Membrane System is sympathetic to heritage structures
- For its reversible process.
Examples of the heritage buildings where the Delta Membrane System has been installed include:
- Victoria & Albert Museum – Grade I Listed
- Quadrant, Regent Street, London – Grade II Listed
- L.U.L. London underground stations
- Kensington Palace, Flat 4, London SW1
