In Earth-Retaining Structure Solutions, Delta’s Technical Team provides practical waterproofing guidance for durable, reliable below-ground structures.

As earth-retaining structures can be continuously exposed to moisture, groundwater, and hydrostatic pressure, the selection and installation of an appropriate waterproofing system is essential. Effective waterproofing manages or prevents water ingress, protects internal environments, mitigates deterioration caused by moisture-related infiltration, and enhances the long-term durability and service life of the structure.

Delta’s technical team reviews Delta Amphibia, a self-sealing waterproofing membrane that activates on contact with water. Designed to self-seal, self-heal and self-repair after incidental damage, Delta Amphibia helps maintain a continuous waterproof barrier and protects against water ingress. Its reactive core automatically seals and repairs affected areas when exposed to water, while overlapping joints remain protected and the flexible membrane bridges small cracks caused by movement. Installed before the concrete pour, the membrane bonds with fresh concrete through its fleece layer to create a durable, fully bonded waterproofing solution.

Flood risks are not always a primary concern during the design process of waterproofing below-ground structures.  Designers often focus on other aspects, overlooking the potential hazards associated with flood risk.  However, considering flood risks from the outset is crucial for ensuring the long-term safety of occupants and durability of these spaces.
