Delta Membranes’ Basement Drainage CPD gains RIBA approval

Delta Membrane Systems Limited is pleased to announce that its ‘Implementing advanced technologies to mitigate risk in Type C and basement drainage systems’ Continuing Professional Development (CPD) seminar has received endorsement from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

This CPD seminar is designed for designers, specifiers, and architects involved in below-ground construction projects. It provides a comprehensive overview of the key considerations affecting basement design, including drainage systems, waterproofing strategies, ground gas protection, flood risk management, and best practice specification and installation.  The seminar explores the complex relationship between these elements and the importance of adopting an integrated approach to below-ground waterproofing design. Participants will gain a clearer understanding of Type C Cavity Drainage Systems and the role that emerging smart technologies play in their long-term performance.

A particular focus is placed on advanced monitoring solutions, demonstrating how intelligent system monitoring can help identify issues early, improve maintenance planning, and reduce risk throughout the lifecycle of a below-ground structure.  By the end of the session, delegates will be better equipped to specify, design, and manage robust waterproofing solutions that enhance resilience and support long-term building performance.

The seminar covers the following core topics:

    • Standards and Guidance Documents
Review of the key British Standards, codes of practice, and industry guidance relevant to below-ground waterproofing and drainage design.
    • Site Investigations and Risk Assessments
Understanding the importance of ground investigations, site-specific risk assessment, and how these influence waterproofing strategy selection.
    • Principles of Waterproofing Below-Ground Structures
    • An introduction to the fundamental waterproofing approaches, including the requirements and considerations of BS 8102 and the different forms of protection available.
    • Type C Waterproofing Design and Channel Layouts
Guidance on the design of cavity drainage systems, including drainage channel layouts, system components, installation considerations, and best practice design principles.
    • Smart Monitoring Technologies
Exploring the latest monitoring solutions for Type C systems and how intelligent technologies can enhance performance, support maintenance strategies, and reduce long-term risk.
    • Project Case Studies and Practical Examples
Real-world applications demonstrating successful waterproofing and drainage designs, common challenges, and lessons learned.
    • Conclusions and Key Takeaways
Summary of best practice recommendations and practical guidance to support the specification, design, and management of resilient below-ground waterproofing systems.
