The project addressed waterproofing and ground gas protection after hydrocarbons were found during site investigations, indicating a potential risk.

Using multiple British Standards in design and specification ensures quality, safety and efficiency, streamlining processes and reducing risks. BS 8485:2015+A1:2019 provides guidelines for designing protective measures against methane and carbon dioxide ground gases in new buildings and outlines strategies for creating specifications that ensure ground gas protection. With BS 8102:2022 ‘Protection of Below Ground Structures Against Water Ingress’ is a code of practice providing recommendations and guidance for safeguarding underground structures from water penetration.

Delta Registered Installers, Oaks Damp Proofing Co Ltd were engaged to assist on an exciting new development, in London.  The project scope was to offer waterproofing design and installation to a warehouse facility.  The 33,000 square foot structure would offer 107 separate dwellings once complete.  The project requirements sought for a sympathetic renovation of an existing basement and back of house comms areas.

When it comes to structures, waterproofing and retrofitting waterproofing solutions is a critical element for protecting a structure and preserving its value.  Poor waterproofing (from design to installation) can cause numerous issues.

This project required a robust and a meticulously detailed specification with Delta Registered Installers, Cemplas being appointed waterproofing contractor to guarantee a watertight basement.

The project requirement was for two forms of waterproofing which consisted of a Type B watertight concrete and Type C Cavity Drainage Membrane System which would meet all criteria of BS8102:2009 (Code of Practice for Protection of Below Ground Structures against Water from the Ground) and to provide a Grade 3 habitable environment.
